Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What is veterinary urgent care?

A:  Veterinary urgent care refers to medical services provided to animals that require prompt attention but are not in immediate, life-threatening danger. Urgent care fills the gap between routine veterinary visits and full emergency services, similar to urgent care clinics for humans. Old Line Veterinary Urgent Care handles conditions that need to be addressed quickly to prevent them from worsening, but that do not require the comprehensive resources of an emergency room.  Because of this focus on sick and injured pets that need immediate care, we don't schedule appointments.

Q:  My pet is sick or injured.  What should I do?

A:  Just bring your pet to us!  No appointment needed, just walk in.  Our staff will get you checked in and a veterinarian will see you shortly to get your pet treated and back to their happy healthy selves.  If you're unsure of what to do, give us a call and we'll give you a hand.

Q:  Do you take Care Credit or ScratchPay?

A:  We accept Care Credit as well as all major credit cards.

Q: Do you provide 24x7 care?

A:  No.  While we provide extended evening and weekend hours, if your pet needs overnight care, we will refer you to Mountain View Animal Emergency in Maugansville, or another local emergency facility depending on capacity.

Q: Do I need to make an appointment for my sick or injured animal?

A: No.  In order to provide you and your pet the most flexibility in seeking urgent care, we intentionally do not take appointments, but rather offer walk-in services.  We know that your pet can have urgent health concerns at any time, and we are there for you when those concerns arrive.

Q:  Do you provide any services other than veterinary urgent care?

A:  Yes! We provide outpatient referral advanced diagnostic ultrasounds for your pets.  If you or your primary care veterinarian determine the need for advanced diagnostic ultrasound imaging, you or your vet can schedule an appointment with Dr. Saxton for an ultrasound.  Dr. Saxton will provide your primary care veterinarian with a full diagnostic imaging report the same day of the ultrasound so your pet can get the best care from your primary care team. Dr. Saxton was certified by the Academy of Veterinary Imaging in Advanced Diagnostic Imaging in 2014 and is excited to offer this service to pet owners and veterinarians in the area.

Q: What veterinary services do you not provide?

A: Our goal is filling the gap between your primary care veterinarian and an emergency clinic, providing immediate assistance with serious or potentially serious health issues that need to be addressed immediately, or more minor issues that need care before they become serious.  Routine well visits such as wellness exams, routine vaccinations, spay & neuter and routine dental care should be conducted by your primary care veterinarian.  Life threatening emergencies, such as serious trauma, repeated seizures, choking and nonprogressive labor should be seen at an emergency clinic.

Q: Are you new to the area?

A:  While Old Line Veterinary Urgent Care is new to the Hagerstown and tristate area, lead veterinarian Dr. Diana Saxton has over 16 years of experience serving pets and pet owners in the area.
